Yacht racing

Each year the British Keelboat Academy supports young people aged between 18 and 25 in developing confidence, self-belief and team skills through the intense challenge of high performance yacht racing.

Yacht Racing...changing lives

Funding required

We need to raise funds each year to provide training, food and accommodation for 45 young people for one season’s racing.

The British Keelboat Academy operates a number of racing boats which are used to support and encourage young people to develop key skills that will assist them throughout life.

Each year a squad of up to 45 deserving young people are selected from diverse backgrounds, on a basis of attitude and focus, to take part in a comprehensive programme. The squad receives one-to-one mentoring, on-water coaching, fitness, leadership and teamwork development while competing on a national and international race circuit.

The British Keelboat Academy making a difference to people’s lives...

I came to the Academy with very little sailing experience. The mentoring and training programme enabled me to take on the responsibility of running an important part of the Farr 52 and managing the crew.

Gareth Fowler (Gaz), aged 20

The support and training these young people receive is giving them every opportunity to be successful in whatever they choose to do.

Peter Harrison, Supporter

The scheme gives young people from all backgrounds, a unique opportunity to learn and develop their racing and general sailing skills from the very best people.
