Shirley Robertson OBE becomes an Ambassador for the
United Kingdom Sailing Academy

Shirley Robertson OBE has chosen to become an Ambassador for the Cowes based charity, the United Kingdom Sailing Academy (UKSA).
Shirley’s relationship with the UKSA goes back many years. She chose to use the Academy as one of her base’s for her 2000 Olympic campaign in the Europe Class, making use of the facilities and often sailing out of the UKSA with her training partner. The UKSA subsequently offered infrastructure support for her 2004 Angling campaign.
More recently Shirley has offered her support to the UKSA’s Gipsy Moth IV Project by becoming a Patron. She also spent a lot of time at UKSA in 2005 inspiring students from the five Isle of Wight High School’s to put a sailing campaign together and compete in the ‘Make your Mark Round the Island Race’ programme. UKSA provided all the training facilities for the event, which was sponsored by SEEDA and the Isle of Wight Economic Partnership.
Shirley’s role as Ambassador for the UKSA is very much focused on the charitable work of the organisation. Her current involvement in the Gipsy Moth IV Project and her position of Patron of The Ellen MacArthur Trust will assist the Academy in their fundraising efforts, allowing the work the UKSA does with young disadvantaged children to continue for years to come.
David Green, CEO of the UKSA said, “We are enormously excited about the confirmation of Shirley Robertson OBE as our Ambassador. Having worked with Shirley over a number of years, we are very aware of her personal dedication and commitment to the sport. We would like to offer Shirley every possible support we can for her future Olympic campaign leading up to 2008 and are also delighted about Shirley’s position as Patron of The Ellen MacArthur Trust (EMT) which will help to bring the work of our two organisations even closer together. There are EMT participants on the next leg of Gipsy Moth’s voyage and I’m sure Shirley’s involvement will ensure we get the most out of our working relationship and help in our fundraising campaign for the EMT.”
