Dee Caffari gets Skyped at UKSA
On Saturday 19th August, visitors to the UK Sailing Academy’s open day were joined by record breaking yachtswoman and UKSA graduate, Dee Caffari who gave a talk about her record breaking solo round the world yachting adventure. It was not only listened to by those attending the open day but also by people as far away as Mexico and China!
To enable up to 100 web users around the world to listen to Dee’s presentation, a live Skypecast was put in place. Skype is a free internet communications programme which allows people around the world to talk over the internet. Skype is growing in popularity, especially amongst the sailing community, as it allows people to communicate with one another wherever they are in the world as long as they have an internet connection. In response to this trend, all UKSA course advisors are now contactable via Skype and in a bid to offer a better service web cams are being installed, which when used with Skype will see a return of face-to-face communication.
Following the success of Dee’s Skypecast, UKSA are now looking at other ways in which the technology can be put to use. For those who missed the Skypecast. Future live learning events are planned throughout the Autumn.
