Mathew Pinsent trains at UKSA
Matthew Pinsent joined students at UKSA today to take part in an MCA Personal Survival Techniques course. The quadruple gold medal winning rower is getting essential survival training in preparation for his entry into the Fastnet Race. Matthew is joining UKSA graduate and round the world yachtswoman Dee Caffari onboard her yacht Aviva for the gruelling 608 mile offshore race.
The Rolex Fastnet Race is well known for its difficult tidal currents and changeable weather conditions. Dee recommended that Matthew undertake some training at UKSA as it is essential to be prepared for any eventuality when going to sea.
“Dee recommended I get some sea survival training at UKSA, I also wanted to do the course for my own peace of mind as I have never raced offshore before.” Matthew commented. “I’m really excited about racing with Dee, it’s a great opportunity.”
The MCA Personal Survival Techniques course has taught Matthew a variety of survival skills including investigating causes of distress, knowledge and use of equipment, launch and recovery of a life raft, preparation for survival and the use of search and rescue organisations.
