Course information

The course covers watch keeping routines, duties and responsibilities including safety, fire systems, prevention and appropriate immediate action. Routine maintenance and record keeping. Determination of voyage needs including fuel and water.

The ability to interpret performance information and rectify common faults. The understanding of the consequences of sailing with certain items out of service. Understanding the Chief Engineers responsibilities when bunkering and refuelling. Routine pumping operations. Pollution prevention, the operation of alternators and generators.

The safe entry to enclosed spaces. Connect and disconnect shore power, parallel generators, Operation of auxiliary boilers, preparing a vessel for sea.

Examination and assessment

The courses is assessed by oral examination with the MCA at a suitable time. MCA at a suitable time.
