5 days, in addition 30 hours of pre course study.

Course information

The module commences with a basic introduction to law introducing civil and criminal law, negligence and duty of care. The structure of the UK maritime frame work introduces maritime legislation, information and accident investigation including onboard record keeping and requirements.

The module continues with an introduction to international law, and safety management investigating certification documentation, safety requirements and sea worthiness. Contracts of salvage employment, yacht charter and marine insurance conclude the syllabus.

Examination and assessment

Assessment is by written 2½ hour examination at the end of the module. The pass rate is 60%.
