The Ellen MacArthur Trust, (www.ellenmacarthurtrust.org) is looking for yacht skippers, for their four day Solent sailing trips over the summer, Skandia CowesWeek and The Round the Island Race. The Ellen MacArthur Trust takes young people aged 8 -18 sailing, to help them regain their confidence on their way to recovery from cancer, Leukaemia and other serious illness. These trips are of four day duration, the yachts used are 38ft -45ft cruising yachts, ideal for carrying groups of children, each night the boats stay at a different port and the children and crew live and sleep on board. There is a set Solent based itinerary. Candidates should have a real sense of fun (water fights are mandatory!) and ability to communicate and empathise with the children. It should be emphasised that these trips are all about getting kids on the water and building confidence, rather than focusing on the sailing, a commercially endorsed yachtmaster certificate is essential. Candidates will be required to have a CRB check. Pay is at the local daily commercial rate.

Skippers are responsible for leading 10-12 students through all aspects of life aboard a sailboat. Our 3-week programs take place on 45-50 foot catamarans and monohulls. Chef & Mate couple required for a private/charter Baltic 88 in Western Med for the summer. They must be fit couple, who are at Yachtmaster Offshore level. They must be capable of turning out high level food for charter guests and have a high degree of awareness in the hospitality/service area. The crew level is 4 when working on charter or when the owner and family are aboard. This year will be a busy charter season but the owner will use the yacht for about 2 weeks mid summer. Captain has very high standards which he expect crew to work to. The yacht has had 1.5 million Euros spent on her and is good condition. With a draft of 4.75 mtr she is at anchor for much of the season which this year will be Western Med. PADI qualifications would be very welcome along with any languages. Flotilla Company currently has vacancies from Athens starting at the end of April 2008 and finishing early October. This new flotilla will be based in Zea Marina, a prestigious private marina and cruise the islands of the Saronic Gulf, south of Athens. We are looking to recruit a flotilla skipper and hostess team - preferably a couple . Some previous flotilla experience would be an advantage as you will set up a new flotilla programme. Although both lead crews will be out on flotilla during the peak summer weeks, there will be some periods where only one of the lead yachts will be out on flotilla and the other remains ashore in the marina for a week or two. During this period the skipper will do yacht delivery work and some informal instruction on the flotilla, while the hostess will organize provisioning, paperwork, transfers and turnarounds for the guests and provide shore-based assistance to the flotilla. Deckhand required in San Remo, Italy for a 24m Sangermani wodden SY. Could possibly lead to eventual employment as Skipper. She is based in Italian/Frech Riviera for this summer. Must be a holder of valid Radio and offshore certificates. Must be interested in the practical experience covering all aspects of sailing, navigating and most importantly pleasing the owner and his guests. This is a normal deckhand job which entails keeping the boat clean outside, washing up, helping to clean crew quarters and crew head but is also a potential skipper position. There will be a person on board wiling to give the
practical training at the helm, with manoevers both under sail and mooring in harbours, (weather conditions permitting), mechanical repairs, varnishing, painting and other useful knowledge. The salary is €2.000 p. m. with food, uniforms and

Qualifications not necessary, usually if the Deck/ Stew is switched on we have them driving the tenders by the end of the summer and as long as they prove willing to learn (ie get stuck into learning the rules of the road, knots etc) we train them up on the bridge for assisting watchkeeping at Sea. We are currently in Cap D'Ail in our berth, our first engagement is the Monaco Grands Prix and after that we expect to head for Istanbul and spend the rest of the summer cruising Turkey. Engineer required for 6 weeks this summer for a 22m/72' single engined wave-piercing powerboat. Built 2006/7. The propulsion unit is a Cat C32, driving through a Kamewa 550 waterjet. Designed for long distance cruising, can carry 12 tonnes of fuel, 1500 n miles range. The concept is for good sustained speeds, rather than a high top speed, and in normal conditions we can run at 28 knots in relative comfort. Having just one engine it is essential that you have the ability to work with mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment. Technical backup provided by Caterpillar (through Finnings), so as long as telephone communications can be maintained, any engine issues should be straightforward. You will need to be on board for the planned trip from England to Iceland and back in July/August 2008. Ideally you will also need to make yourself available for a couple of trips before this to become familiar with the boat, and to ensure suitability. The boat is based in Weymouth. Must have STCW and experience is not necessary, just an understanding of the job and what is required. Will be heading to France for April and May, hopefully attending the Monaco Grand Prix, the rest of the summer will be cruising Italy, Sardinia, Greece, finishing in Turkey around October. Currently in NZ after cruising the Pacific and Caribbean.The boat will be shipped to Palma and should arrive at the beginning of April. It will then be sailing to Turkey and spend the season sailing in Turkey, Greece and Croatia before returning to Palma at the end of the season. The boat is run with two crew with the owner being actively involved. Experienced First Officer required for a 45m Feadship built in 1966 currently in yard in Barcelona with a crew of 8. The position is full time. The successful candidate can start immediately. The plan is to stay in the yard in Barcelona until mid May (as she is having the hull painted) and then will return to France if a berth is available waiting for owners use in mid June. The vessel is available for charter around owners use.
The First officer has his own cabin. However when the owner comes he normally brings extra staff therefore the extra bunk in this cabin may have to be given up for a short time while the boss is on board. The crew is covered by the vessels insurance for medical and accident. A total of 20 working days leave is given per annum. Must hava minimum OOW or Chief Mates certificate less than 3,000 gt. Is an experienced competent, keen, hands on First officer who is hard working and organized. All certificates must be in date and valid

Skipper / Sailing Master required for an adventure company in Florida thats for over 30 years, has consistently delivered high-quality, expedition-based summer programs for teenagers. Through hands-on experiential learning and adventure travel throughout the world, we have ignited the inherent leadership skills within thousands of young adults. The role of an our skippers goes far beyond that of simply piloting the vessel. Our skippers are primarily responsible for the safety of the students and work closely with the other staff aboard to oversee everything from cooking and cleaning to scheduling and support / interaction during the teambuilding and leadership training. Our staff live aboard the vessels full time and so must be used to living and working in a close quarters type of 'expeditionary' environment. The words 'I'm just the skipper' do not apply here, where roles are diverse. One minute you could be running the ski boat, the next teaching knots and splices. The position is not only fun and high paced but also carries an enormous amount of responsibility. All staff skippers must satisfy the following criteria USCG Captains License or equivalent, such as the RYA Yachtmaster, considerable documented experience skippering a vessel of 50-ft, be capable of teaching to the standards of US Sailing and the ASA (instructor certification a bonus but not required).
