Course overview
Provides the training, practical experience and preparation for gaining a commercially endorsed RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore (Power) certificate, plus a high level of marine engineering and yacht maintenance content and STCW 95 Basic Training.
Practical training at sea provides a chance to experience the thrills of power yachting onboard our flybridge Fairline Phantom 38. Fitted with twin 270hp diesel engines, it’s capable of up to 30 knots and is equipped with all the electronics needed for high-speed navigation.
Pre-requisite experience
17 days sea time on motor yachts recommended
Qualify for
Work as crew or skipper on commercially operated motor yachts

Practical training
- 2,500 miles of practical experience, including skippered passages and night hours
- Large ship bridge management and watch keeping on long passages
- Responding to emergencies, including fire fighting routines, fire mustering, use of pumps and damage control
- Tender launching, handling and recovery
- 10 days onboard 104ft MY Hatherleigh

Shore based Training
- RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Theory
- Yacht design, stability and construction
- Guest care, food preparation, hygiene, victualing, budgeting and petty cash controls

Yacht systems and maintenance training
- Pumps, water makers
- Heating Systems
- Heads and sanitation
- Boat electrics, generators, batteries
- GRP repair, varnishing, paintwork, anti-foul
- Propulsion systems, stern gear, hydraulic operation

Navigation and electronic aids
- All techniques necessary for high-speed navigation, including:
- Advanced navigation training with Transas Interactive Bridge Simulation System, including Electronic Chart Display Information System (ECDIS) and Auto
- Radar Plotting Aid (ARPA)
- Computer simulated radar training / on-board radar navigation and collision avoidance
- Use of other navigational aids including GPS, log and depth
- Ship-to-shore communications
Qualifications
Successful candidates will gain the following qualifications:
- Commercial endorsement for Yachtmaster / Coastal Skipper certificates (1)
- RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore (Power) (2) or Coastal Skipper (Power)
- MCA Approved Engine Course
- DTI / CEPT Long Range Radio Certificate with Satellite endorsement

Notes
- £17 + plus Personal Medical Examination
- Entry for RYA Yachtmaster examination requires a minimum of 17 days sea time before taking this course. Days afloat over the last ten years all count and can be self certified. If you are short on days at sea and wish to be eligible for your RYA Yachtmaster please contact us to arrange Motor Yacht Induction training.
