Aim

Practical basic training to enable you to work onboard yachts as engineer and an invaluable enhancement of the skills base for those planning to skipper smaller yachts.

Course Overview

An ideal addition to the skills portfolio of our Professional Yachtmaster Training and Crew Training students. This course is the first level qualification for the MCA Engineering Officer training scheme.

Benefits

Develop your basic understanding from the RYA Diesel Engine Maintenance course to a more advanced level. Enables you to work as engineer onboard a vessel up to 24m, including dual role skipper / engineer positions.

  • General principles of compression ignition engines
  • Two- and four-stroke operation cycles and construction details
  • Fuel system and the role of air in the combustion process
  • Cooling systems and lubrication technology
  • Power transmission units and hull fittings
  • Engine electrical systems
  • Safe working practices and pollution legislation
  • Bottled LPG installations

  • MCA Approved Engine Course Certificate (AEC)

AEC is included in the Motor Yacht Skipper Training, Ocean Graduate and Cadetship programmes.
