First Aid courses
Every mariner should be equipped with the knowledge to deal with medical emergencies at sea – even on coastal passages it may be some time before outside assistance arrives, during which time a crew needs to be able to both care for a casualty and navigate the vessel to a safe haven.
The Academy offers two introductory first aid courses, both of which cover similar core subject and skill areas. RYA First Aid at Sea is designed specifically for the leisure sailor, while MCA Elementary First Aid is intended for those working afloat. For those who would like more in depth knowledge, the MCA Proficiency in Medical First Aid offers a good progression.
