RYA Coastal Skipper (Motor)

Pre-requisite experience

At least 15 days aboard a motor cruiser, including 2 as skipper, plus 300 miles logged at sea and at least 8 night hours. RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster theory and RYA Diesel Engine Maintenance are recommended.



Course overview

A more advanced course intended for those who already have navigation and boat handling skills to the level of Day Skipper. At the end of the course successful students will have the skills and knowledge to skipper motor yachts on coastal passages by day and night. The course includes preparation and planning for a coastal passage, plus pilotage and navigation (including at night), command skills, manoeuvring in close quarters, and handling adverse weather and emergency situations.

Practical exam which normally follows the exam preparation programme.
