(includes RYA Radar course)

1 weekend

A basic understanding of navigation equivalent to RYA Day Skipper theory.

Course overview

Covering GPS, plotters and electronic charts, radar (including ARPA units), the course gives a good understanding of the use of electronic navigation aids at sea, as well as an appreciation of their limitations.

The course, is taught entirely in our £150,000 navigation simulator suite. A series of progressive exercises is used to investigate, demonstrate and highlight proper use of the equipment, mistakes and failures, and full equipment capability. During the course you will take command of your own (simulated) vessel in a variety of navigational environments.

It is not essential to study before the course, however you may find it helpful to refresh your knowledge of basic navigation and rules of the road.
