1. Man-made Power

Let UKSA take you on an exhilarating power boat trip to NPower’s oil fired power station where you learn about the benefits and disadvantages of fossil fuel power. Our instructors will work with you to help students estimate the carbon footprint of your day and explore ways to reduce it.

2. Wind Power

Vestas is the global leader in the manufacture of wind vanes, making some of the largest blades in the world. UKSA have teamed up with Vestas to offer a visit to the engineering facilities, exploring the concept of wind farms. Following the visit to the engineering plant our instructors will run an activity session using wind power (e.g. sailing, kiteing), to help increase understanding of the dynamics of harnessing the wind’s energy.

3. Water Power

Using UKSA’s fantastic location will allow your group to study the power of the waves and tides, their impact on beaches and potential for power generation. Travel by kayak using your own natural power and explore the effects of rising tides.

4. The Eco-Isle

Using the Island’s bus system students can independently visit different parts of the Isle of Wight to research the Island’s Eco policy in action and use the information gathered to compile a comparison study with your local area. (For certain groups these activities can be supervised and use UKSA transport as appropriate.)

5. Estuary and Bio-diversity Study

Using various water-craft, explore the river Medina estuary for its wildlife, rich maritime heritage, vibrant mix of recreation, transportation and industry. Explore why conservation and minimizing impact on the eco-systems is vital to the survival of a range of local species.
