Powerboating

From the age of 14, young people can undertake powerboat tuition and gain nationally recognised certificates to drive power vessels or Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIB’s).

Our instructors teach hundreds of young people how to drive and be responsible for small powerboat. Young people react amazingly well and rise to the challenge and responsibility that comes with commanding a vessel.

Following the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) courses, UKSA aim to certify the level of achievement which can also be the start of a career pathway in maritime studies, as RIB’s are used industry-wide for a range of uses. In one day a RYA Powerboat Level 1 can be achieved and over two days the Level 2 can be achieved by most.

The course covers both theory and practical work, including launching and recovery, boat handling under way (including high speed), anchoring, coming alongside, man overboard, disabled craft, leaving and returning to pontoons, basic navigation, collision prevention regulations, boat design, engines and drives.
